Yoshihide Sakuragi, Ph.D.

My research at University of Arkansas involved collection of rainwater and analyzing its uranium and plutonium isotopic ratios. I was able to prove the anomaly in the isotopic ratio of uranium in the rainwater collected at Fayetteville, Arkansas, in 1980 was due to a Russian satellite (Kosmos 954) fell in Canada (1978) which carried a nuclear reactor burning highly enriched U-235. A few months later, my rain water analysis showed that erupted Mt. St. Helens dumped a huge amount of uranium into the atmosphere on May 18, 1980. These episodes did not pose a threat to our safety or health; however, it made me realize that radioactive nuclides present in the rainwater as well as its acidity, affect the quality of life of animals and plants alike in the long run.

As a post-doctorate research associate at Purdue University, I analyzed trace elements in meteorites to study their history: where they came from and what kind of physical conditions they had experienced. Trace elements show more signs of shocks, either being subjected to physical shocks or being exposed to high temperature. Another research project I was involved was extraction of oxygen from meteorites as a source of oxygen for the space living. The next subject could have been water! Unfortunately, these researches were cut short due to the lack of funding when the priority was shifted from basic researches to military researches such as "Star War" under the Reagan administration.

While I was in Japan I was introduced to "Tokpela's Mist™"of 8knot Co., Ltd., with purported health benefits. After a couple decades in the international business with Japan and China and consulting, I was hesitant to get involved with "water business." In Japanese "water business" has connotation of a chancy business such as bars and restaurants. However, my initial research of Tokpela's Mist™resurrected my interest in science and health. First, we investigated the science of this "hydrogen water" by reviewing all relevant literatures (Bittner & Sakuragi, 2006). Secondly, we conducted tests including YMCA swim test (Bittner, etal., 2007) with help of Dr. Alvah C. Bittner, a contract professor at the University of Washington and a former senior researcher at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (Battelle). Our findings were very encouraging in proving the efficacies of Tokpela's Mist™ both in theory and test results. Simply put there is no water we are aware of that is superior to Tokpela's Mist™ for its health benefits and well being.

It is interesting to note that in recent years we have come to understand from the isotopic study of deuterium/hydrogen ratios that the origin of water is likely to be extraterrestrial. If this is the case the special topics in nuclear chemistry course, "Nuclear Cosmo-Geochemistry," which I took years ago might finally become useful. It may help to explain the existence of naturally occurring "hydrogen water,"n or so called "miracle springs" of the world. No doubt in the first world created in Hopi Indian mythology, Tokpela, would have contained such "hydrogen water." Meanwhile, I intend to make Tokpela's Mist™ available for everyone. My experience both in science and business should help in this endeavor.
